Mens March 2016 Race Report

Written by

March 2016

Firstly well done to the guys who were awarded the runner of the quarter awards - Glenn Batt for his come back following illness, and Rob Jones for his recent race results - PBs and scoring highly for the club in the DRRL - Club Awards

Wimborne 20 mile (Sunday 6th March) - 225 finishers (CC)

A good turnout from our Harrier Men, and good running conditions on the day. The course was very well marshalled and supported, and was certainly undulating! A great marathon preparation race. Paul's fuelling by cocktails seems to not be a tactic we should all embrace, Rob put in another stella performance to finish in 12th (though at the cost of an injury - hope you are back to running soon mate), and it was great to be able to cheer on (and be cheered) by all the Harriers in the race up and down the field - the loops meant we were running on opposite sides of the road at various points. Special thanks go to our injured men Stuart Stone and Matt Brown who cycled all that way out to support us - cheers guys.

The Grizzly – Sunday 13th March, Seaton, Devon.

Grizzly2016

Thank you goes to Mr Dave Wilson for submitting this Grizzly race report: "Here’s the blurb: Twentyish muddy, hilly, boggy, beachy miles of the multiest-terrain running experience you will find this side of the end of time. It's by no means the toughest race around (honestly!), has changed over the years and nearly died on a few occasions, but hundreds of you keep coming back for more so we must still be getting it right. Whatever it isn't, it is an experience.
The sun was shining, the sky was blue, a slight breeze, and 9 c at the start. What more could you want? Vaseline! We had none, and Gary asked numerous people if they had any to give to three desperate men! We still had none at the start. It didn’t matter as we all were chafe free.
The course has over 3000ft of accent, knee deep bogs, ice cold streams and shingle/pebble beaches to overcome before you see the sight of Seaton sea front below you at mile 18. Downhill from here to the large cheering crowds at the finish.
The numerous Marshals were very supportive and friendly. There was lots of support along the way (especially at the pubs), and the atmosphere was excellent.
A fantastic race. Do it if you can. Highly recommended."

The New Forest 20.  20th March @ Linwood, New Forest

NewForest20-2016-1

...and another race report from Mr Dave Wilson with his 3rd 20 mile race this month!: "This race is part of the New Forest Running Festival which takes place over two days. There are various events, including a 75k off road ultra. Thanks to the kindness of the injured Rob Jones (who’s number I had) I was running the 20 miler (90% off road) with Darren and Paul.
The race starts and finishes at Red Shoot Camp Site. It was a chilly start of 6c. The sun was trying to come out and there was a moderate wind. The course is made up of two undulating laps. Mostly on forest tracks. There are a few gates to open and minor roads to cross. The course is just over 21 miles. Lots of gels in your Goody Bag. The marshals are friendly, and the car park is good.

I would recommend this 20 mile race as a pre marathon training run. It has a friendly, local atmosphere. Try the 75k Ultra if you’re mad enough!"
