Ladies September 2015 Race Report

Written by

SEPTEMBER LADIES! .....And another new month upon us with some fine results as below.....

THE BEASTLY BEAST!! 6TH Sept (part of the Poole AC Purbeck Trail Series) For those who don't know, it's an infamous 14 mile race which is very hilly, more or less cross-country and takes you across fields, down to beaches and along cliff paths. It starts and finishes at Corfe....and it is tough!!....loads of ladies!!

113 Hannah Collier 1.56.25 131 Carmel Ryan 2.00.02 141 Helen Gilbert 2.02.55 142 Caroline Horder 2.02.57 149 Tracey Lander 2.04.29 183 Jenny Beckett 2.10.14 213 Kristina Varley 2.16.05 216 Becky Froggatt 2.16.35 220 Tracy Sherwood 2.16.53 234 Trisha Reilly 2.20.46 259 Sarah Ngugi 2.26.29 308 Fiona Lucas 2.38.02

FORDINGBRIDGE 10M 'YOMP' A circular ten mile run through lovely Hampshire countryside both road starting & finishing at Fordingbridge Fire Station. This race was held in memory of Royal Marine Adam Brown of 40 Commando who was born in Yateley, Hampshire, England UK on 25th February 1985. On the 1st August 2010 he was tragically killed in action whilst serving in Afghanistan, he was just 25 years old. One of Adam's dreams was to own a beach hut at Mudeford near Christchurch where he spent many a childhood holiday. As Adam said many times "It is a very special place". We have now successfully completed a fundraising campaign to purchase a beach hut so that we can fulfill his dream and the monies raised from this event will go towards maintaining the hut. "Adam's Hoofing Hut" will be an extraordinary memorial to an extraordinary young man and will be used by Marines families and friends in need of a place to relax and reflect. The was a lovely personal and low key race, it felt more like running for fun, rather than feeling you had to race......I was the only female harrier there...but Ade Holloway was there too...so I will report on us both!!

11th Heather Khoshnevis 77.09 2nd lady 23rd Ade Holloway 89.45 38 finishers - which just goes to show...you got to be in to win it!!

NAOMI BENNETT A section all to herself!! She completed a "double Whammy" of marathons this weekend .

Saturday 12th - Hangers Heros - Full and Half Trail Marathon Run - Bagwell Farm, Chickerell, Weymouth Dorset The undulating course is almost exclusively off-road and, whilst being challenging and rewarding, allows competitors to also enjoy the fantastic local scenery. Naomi completed this with Greg Hawkins and Ade Holloway in 6ish hours and they had a fabulous day out! Sunday 13th - Naomi then went off to Farnham to complete the Pilgrims Way - Beautiful scenery, and outstanding hill-top views Multi-terrain, undulating, challenging. Again, obviously another beautiful location which she admirably completed in 4.56. Well done Naomi...a little rest before your marathon next week possibly!! Watch this space!.....And so her journey continues....Saturday 19th Naomi did another challenging marathon, Uphill to Wells...An off-road race starting at Uphill beach and finishing at Wells Cathedral. The route is 90% off-road and more or less exactly follows the West Mendip Way along footpaths and bridleways....apparently they went a bit off course and ended up doing 31 miles! Oooppps!!

LITTLEDOWN 5

189th Gemma Skinner 43.41 220th Rachel Robbins 49.00 229th Josie Harris 49.08 236th Reli Fancy 51.12 245th Helen Tabeshfar 53.21

THE NEW FOREST RUNNING FESTIVAL Full Marathon, Half Marathon, Advertiser & Times 10k and 5k All routes will start and finish from New Park Farm, Brockenhurst and wind through the heart of the New Forest National Park. The multi-terrain courses offer some of the most scenic running experiences in the country, with a blend of forest enclosures, open roads, far reaching views and of course, the famous New Forest ponies! This was the new courses for 2015, the previous events having ceased for 2014. It was entirely different and was 50/50 road and trail and I would say, harder. It was very well organised for a first event and is definitely recommended...Great to have this event back....Long live the New Forest Marathon! :-)

Medoc Marathon 2015
This is the best description I could give you of the Medoc Marathon and says it all!! We had quite a few Harriers who went and had lots of usual "away fun" .... Kathy Fooks, Tracey Lander, Sam Pain, Helen Gilbert, Amanda Patemen, Ian Gregory, Gerry Lucas, Paolo de luca, Phil Sparkes, Greg Morum....a few others went, some of whom are not Littledown Harriers, and sorry if I have missed anyone off!! They all finished in good spirit (literally!) and times are totally irrelevant, unless you don't like wine....then you probably would'nt go anyway!!! Well done and Cheers to you all!!

PURBECK MARATHON AND 16 MILES (part of the Poole AC Purbeck Trail Series) Swanage, Purbeck and the Jurassic Coast has spectacular history, landscapes and views and has been home to The Purbeck Marathon for the last three years and now we have The Purbeck 16! A step up from a half marathon with the same fantastic scenery and big hills!

The others were Studland 5k in August, Purbeck Marathon, The Beast, and Studland Stampede. To be part of this, you ,ust have completed atleast 3 from the series. Both Caroline and Carmel have been taking part......Well done to you both, and we look forward to seeing your overall achievement.

55 Caroline Horder 52.53 83 Carmel Ryan 55.35

That was a real "action packed" September! Well done to you all for great running and fun. If I have missed anybody from any results, then i am very sorry, I do try my best to scour the endless lists, and sometimes the results are not very clear who is a Littledown Harrier so then I have to use my Psychic powers!!!...Likewise.....I will not know if you have attended an "obscure" race unless you tell me!! October is about to "kick off" with a whole weekend of races...Bournemouth Marathon Festival, 5k, 10k, Half and full marathons....Clarendon Way and Jersey Marathons.....Good luck to all taking part......and to the remainder of October......

Upcoming races are:

  • 11 October - Studland Stampede (CC) (RACE FULL)
