Ladies August 2014 Race Report

Written by
Well here is the summary of Action in August and it certainly is jampacked!!  I always remember a few years back that August went very quiet racewise because of the heat and holidays, definitely not the case this year..although we did get some lovely sunshine.  Well here we go, let's see who did what......

STURMINSTER HALF MARATHON
This is always a popular one.  Its quite "Undulating"...or is that just a good word for "Hilly"!!!  But despite the hills, its a lovely country road course.

149th     Heather Khoshnevis            1.44.12
190th     Tracy Sherwood                 1.48.29
211th     Kathy Fooks                      1.50.13
369th     Janet Hooper                      2.18.35             (417 Finishers)

SALISBURY 54321
The race is undulating/hilly taking runners on a scenic route through the historical region of Wessex. It is run on quiet park roads, bridleways and public paths, through areas of outstanding natural beauty, many not normally open to the general public.  There are varying distances to choose from, 10k,20k,30k,42k and 50k so there is something for almost everyone!  Even walkers are invited to take part! so lets see who did what....

42K
84th     Naomi Bennett             4.40.57
129th   Joanna Tomsett            4.57.53
148th   Amanda Shepheard       5.04.52                   (246 finishers)

20K
43rd   Helen Gilbert              1.55.41    (2nd F40)
55th   Becky Jay                  1.58.40    (1st F35)
130th Tracey Lander             2.18.39                         (196 finishers)

DORSET DODDLE
'A Dorset LDWA Challnge Event.  Complete 32 miles in 12 Hours.  The route is linear, so coach travel is provided from Swanage to the start at Weymouth.  The route  heads out from Weymouth Esplanade Clock to Swanage following the South West Coast Path, passing through Osmington Mills, Ringstead, Lulworth, Kimmeridge, St Aldhelms Head & Durlston Country Park to finish at Swanage.  Only water is provided at aid stations, and light refreshments are provided at the finish'.
Trust me....this may be enjoyable to many of you....but it is very very tough!!!!

Louise Harper               6.42
Caroline Horder             7.30
Heather Khoshnevis      8.30
Janet Hooper                8.54

THAMES MEANDER MARATHON (there is also a half)
Now this was simply beautiful, wonderful and just my cup of tea and I shall definitely return next year and hopefully do it without carrying a battered and bruised body from the Doddle!!!

Marathon & Half - Course Descriptions

Both the Thames Meander Marathon / Half routes run along the Thames Path on the riverside trail starting and finishing at the YMCA Hawker Centre. The out / back marathon route proceeds from the YMCA HQ towards the Thames then meanders all the way down the Thames Path towards Putney Bridge on the near side which is the turnaround point, then back along the Thames Path past the race HQ as far as Kingston Bridge, returning to finish back at the YMCA HQ. The half marathon route emulates the marathon route up to just past Kew Pier which is the turnaround point, then returning to the HQ.

There is also a winter race on the 1st November which I am considering if anyone else interested?

75th       Julie White                  3.44.19
146th     Heather Khoshnevis     4.03.12
169th     Naomi Bennett            4.12.55           (326 finishers)

THE BEAST  (Yes...it certainly is a BEAST!!!)
This is just over 12 miles starting and finishing in Corfe and takes you round the coastal path with many obstacles such as stiles, rocky narrow overgrown paths, some very close to cliff edge running, very steep descents both on grass and uneven rocky steps....an what goes down must come up and vice versa etc etc etc.....loved by most but not by all! Moi !   Littledown had at least 30 runners there, 11 ladies, so just goes to show what a tough lot we must be...or just plain MAD!!!!

122nd           Louise Harper             1.56.37         1st F35
124th            Tracy Sherwood          1.57.27
134th            Kathy Fooks               1.59.02         1st F55 (welcome to your new age cat Kathy!!!)
These 3 ladies also scooped trophies for the 1st Ladies Team!  Well done to you all :-)

151st           Carmel Ryan                 2.01.46
177th           Becky Jay                     2.06.06
262nd          Serena Fooks                2.19.28
322nd          Heather Khoshnevis       2.32.57
348th           Janet Hooper                 2.42.22
360th           Sarah Ngugi                  2.46.02
383rd           Fiona Lucas                  2.52.20

Well August is now over and September has arrived.  Time for own very own Littledown 5 this weekend, so will be nice to see loads of you out there on the course cheering on the runners.

The next Club Championship race is the Studland Stampede on the 12th October and I understand this fills up quickly so if you want or need some points...then get entered fast!  The next DRRL race is the Gold Hill 10k, also on the 12th October (oh dear!!!)  So would be good to see some of you there as well!  You can enter on the day for this one, or visit www.gillinghamtrotters.talktalk.net for an entry form.

Just before I go. Incase you haven't heard, we are now very lucky to have Caroline Horder as our Ladies Vice Captain. She is there most training sessions, so any queries or problems, she will be happy to help.  Now with winter drawing near I will also be in attendance most Tuesdays so I will look forward to meeting our many new members that have joined during the summer months.

Well that's all for now.....see you all soon.
