August 2017

Sturminster Newton Half Marathon (6th August) - 253 finishers

A good day for running out in the lovely North Dorset countryside, with our men taking 3rd place team on the day (and winning a bottle of wine each!).

Position Name Time
10 Paul Hill 1:25:37
11 Steve Williams 1:26:01
69 Greg Bemment 1:40:01
110 Wayne Walford Jelks 1:46:33
166 Ade Holloway 1:59:14
176 Phil Sparkes 2:01:13

 Stur Half 2017

Gloucester City Marathon (6th August)

Thanks go to our marathon man Graham for clocking up another quick marathon and submitting a report: "The race starts and finish at Gloucester's beautiful Quays. It's a single loop, run entirely on closed and predominantly flat roads with pacers. You pass many significant sights, including Gloucester Cathederal, Staverton Airport and The Jet Age Museum."

Name Time
Graham Malt 3:16:32

Round The Rock 10k (13th August) - DRRL - 280 finishers

We had great weather - if a little warm for running! Unfortunately we only had 4 Harrier men, and so not enough for a team for the DRRL. This is a bit of a hilly 10k - almost all downhill in the 1st half and all uphill in the 2nd half - making it a tough one!

Position Name Time
28 Steve Williams 40.28
137 Stuart Smith 53.20
140 Mike Terry 54.01
152 Barry Tellling 55.12

Salisbury 54321 Marathon (13th August)

Thanks again to marathon man Graham for the Salibury report: "The Salisbury 5-4-3-2-1 walk, or trail run is an event with a choice of distances  from  5km  to  the  more demanding  42k/Marathon,  or  even  a  50k  Ultra  Marathon.  The  route was over  footpaths,  bridle ways  and  quiet  country roads  in  the  Salisbury Wessex  area.  The  walk/trail  runs took us  past  a  variety  of  sites  of  historical  and scientific interest and through Country Estates not usually open to the general public  This has been made possible by the kind permission of several landowners along the route and including English Heritage."

Position Name Time
5 Graham Malt 3:40:31 1st In age category

Dorset Doddle - 32 miles (20th August)

Thanks to Nick for submitting his result for the Doddle:

Name Time
Nick Hanlon-Brooks 8hrs 20mins

Doddle 19 Aug 17

Lulworth Castle 10k (20th August) - CC - 341 finishers

The sea of orange turned out for this hilly Club Championship race through the beautiful countryside around Lulworth Castle - and the Harriers men won the team prize… well done guys.

Position Name Time
2 Craig Palmer 37.42
5 Paul Hill 39.05
10 Mark Packer 40.42
11 Mark Goodwin 41.08
13 Steve Williams 41.40

 Lulworth 10k 2017

Studland 5k (27th August) - race #2 of 6 in the Purbeck Trail Series - 159 finishers

Thanks to Glenn for submitting the mens results for Studland…

Position Name Time
5 Mark Packer 19.26
29 Glenn Batt 23.46
80 Stuart Smith 27.30

...and a special mention for Tom Woods (son of Jon & Pauling) - surely a Harrier of the future?

45 Tom Woods 24.38 (3rd U16 Boys)

East Farm Frolic Solo (27th August) - 3 and a bit mile laps

A few Harriers turned out for this race from White Star Running - run as many seriously undulating laps as you like (or can) within 12 hours - on a warm day! A certain club chairmans race preparation (involving drinking the night before) seemed a bad idea - to be fair he didnt know he was running it until the morning of the race!

Name Time Laps Distance (approx)
Steve Williams 4:16:35 9 30 miles
Greg Hawkins 5:17:02 8 27 miles
Mike Collins 5:37:10 8 27 miles
James Davies 2:34:35 2 7 miles

Guernsey Marathon (27th August)

A further marathon man report from our Graham… "Guernsey marathon starts and finishes on the waterfront in the heart of St. Peter Port and takes you through all 10 parishes, passed fisherman's cottages and sandy beaches, along flower lined roads and lanes, and through valleys shaded by panoplies of lofty beeches. For over 20 miles you see stunning panoramic views of the coastline."

Position Name Time
10 Graham Malt 3:22:17 2nd M50

Upcoming races:

  • Littledown 5 (DRRL) - Harriers are to marshal the race! (we will enter a Mens team only if we have enough marshals)
  • Gold Hill 10k (DRRL) - 8th October
  • Studland Stampede (CC) - 15th October (RACE FULL)
  • The Stickler 10.1mile - 29th October (a great off road race)

As always, if I have missed you from the results (or made any errors!), or you have done any other races or PBs not reported on please let me know. Also feel free to submit any race reports to be published in next months report.

Race hard guys!
